Cyber Essentials – what we learnt and was it worth it?

by | Jun 25, 2024

The conversations I tend to have with our clients often center around how we can help ensure their data is secure. Art gallery customers want to protect their client database and keep that private collection private. Investment funds ask how they can remain in compliance and meet those due diligence requirements investors will ask of them. Family offices will ask how we can stop them from being ‘hacked’ in order to protect their confidential data structures. Today more than ever cyber security is not just an option but a necessity.

We encourage our clients to use an IT policy framework that can be used to govern how their IT and their data is secured. A great place to start is the Government backed scheme ‘Cyber Essentials’. We took it upon ourselves to follow our own advice and practice what we preach, after all we are IT professionals, how hard could it be right?

My co-author ChatGPT (more on that in our next blog) tells me to say it was an ‘enlightening’ experience, not quite the word I would use but I guess that’s the polite way of putting it. The process required a thorough review of our IT infrastructure, stringent assessments, and the implementation of best practices. It was an eye-opening experience and forced us to ask serious questions of ourselves. This rigorous process not only fortified our own systems but also provided us with invaluable insights into the nuances of cyber security protocols when applied to a real-life working environment.

Our journey to Cyber Essentials certification has equipped us with the expertise to assist our clients in achieving this critical certification. By leveraging our experience and knowledge, we help businesses strengthen their cyber security posture, reduce risks, and enjoy the numerous benefits that come with being accredited.

We urge you to consider achieving certification for your own business, you will enhance your protection against common cyber threats and reduce the risk of data breaches and financial losses. Additionally, certification can lead to lower insurance premiums, as insurers recognise the reduced risk associated with certified businesses. Moreover, having this certification demonstrates a commitment to cyber security, instilling confidence in clients, partners, and stakeholders.

And last but not least, the best part is now we get to use that new snazzy Cyber Essentials Certified logo you see at the bottom of this page!
