Trading without Borders: How Thin Clients Revolutionised a Global Investment Fund

by | Mar 15, 2024

For a long time the market has shifted away from the thin client paradigm. A thin client is (I am not going to make a skinny client joke!) a streamlined computing device that relies on a central server for most of it’s processing power. In other words, they keep things slim on the client side. Laptops and desktops have become more powerful that much of the benefit of thin clients is no longer relevant. These lightweight devices proved a boon back when laptops were underpowered and expensive.

But when one of our existing clients, an investment fund actively engaged in trading the markets, presented us with an intriguing challenge — they sought to eliminate their business’s reliance on physical hardware within their office, I recalled a distant memory of once upon a time working on a thin client. I thought to myself maybe this is the solution?

With expansion plans spanning multiple global regions, they needed a versatile solution. Our strategy involved harnessing the power of virtual machines in Microsoft Azure, providing users with the flexibility to connect from any device, anywhere in the world. This approach allowed the regulated investment fund to maintain strict ownership of their data, which remained securely within their Azure infrastructure. What’s more, it offered the freedom to hire talent from any corner of the globe without the need to ship equipment.

This project showcases our commitment to innovative solutions and bespoke strategies that empower our clients to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. I would love to hear some of your unique requirements, contact us if you would like to have a conversation about how we can tailor a solution for you.
